Remembering how I was 2 years ago…

Looking back at my MS journey… 2 years ago I had to start using 2 walking sticks all the time!

How I am now… wow!
I’m gonna enjoy it & not take days like these for granted because the horrible thing about this disease is it can all change in a heart beat!

The best thing though is its because of me that I’m stronger! Shere will & determination!

#MSFactFriday Fact #1 Fatigue

I’m guessing us MegaSpecials we’ll feeling a wee bit fatigued tomorrow!

Bring it on! It’s gonna be so much fun!
The happiest 5k it’s called, ‘The Color Run’ is coming to Birmingham tomorrow & I’m taking part with a team of my friends! So, 3 of us have MS & the rest are our support team to make sure we get round ok & push the wheelchairs when our legs have had enough of the walking! I have some amazing friends!

So why are we doing it? Well, Tuesday was my 5 year diagnosis anniversary so for me I’m celebrating that! I’m proud of me & I’m loving life!
Challenging myself to do what my hobby was until I could no longer count on my legs.
Just before I was diagnosed me & my partner had bought ourselves hiking equipment. We loved finding new areas to go to & explore but unfortunately I started to experience pain & weakness in my legs so we had to stop.

I’ve been going to pilates classes 3 times a week & training privately as well. Concentrating on my core muscle to help with my balance and walking!

This girl most certainly can!

5 year MS anniversary! Time to celebrate! BOOM!

It’s  going to be a great day!

University hospital Coventry first for my 6 monthly eye check!
This is just routine for me due to my fluctuating vision from my MS. I always have a ‘visual field’ check first which I had last Friday, so today I’ll get the results from that too
I’m not expecting it to show any problems but fingers crossed any way! This is how my MS was detected!

So what else is on the cards for today? Tuesday 11th August… did u mention it’s my 5 year? Surely I didn’t forget!

Pilates today, can’t wait! Seems such a long time because I couldn’t attend Fridays class!
Hannah is covering Kates classes again this week whilst she’s on holiday.
I always enjoy Hannah’s classes, her energy is incredible! She covered Laura’s MS exercise class yesterday & it was great!
I couldn’t resist taking a photo of her when she arrived in her florescent clothes to show off her amazing tan!

So, eye appointment, home to right post about my 5 year (did I mention that?) and then pilates this afternoon!

Goals are set

I Seriously am feeling so proud of myself!
At home I’ve been practicing different exercises that we do during Pilates, in particular the stretches shown above & today I nailed it!

I managed to hold the stretch on the right (‘Tree’) for nearly 45 seconds & I felt as though I was really strong! The stretch on the left I find difficult to stay strong because I have to switch my focus as I go from ‘tree’ to this one. I managed to hold it for 30 seconds today with a bit of a wobble! Okay, I doubt I looked as elegant as the pictures above but I look better than the very first time I was shown how to do them!

Not only that but I was doing these stretches on a ‘power plate’ this morning and for me, that is impressive!

I guess to some it doesn’t seem much doing these stretches but, for me & many MS’rs (people with multiple sclerosis) balance is a major issue. When I started attending the Pilates classes in February I had hardly any balance & very little co-ordination, this is one of my main reasons I started going to Pilates. Since then my core muscles needed for balance have been getting stronger.  

I’m loving seeing the changes in me physically & mentally! 

 

My body is getting stronger, slimmer and healthier everyday

My Pilates instructor is away now for 2 weeks, when she comes back I’d love for her to see an improvement in my stamina!

Practice, practice, practice until perfect! This is my promise I make to myself!
