Failed by National Health Service

Reminder to myself and every other person who like me suffers from mental illness!

This week I had my monthly Tysabri infusion, not the nicest of things to have to go through but because we are warriors, everyone of us does our best to make it a light hearted day.

This month was the worst each of us in the group has ever experienced though!

I will be sharing what happened at the hospital on my blog as soon as I have got my head around it.

To say that we go to hospitals fir treatment and put all our faith in the staff there, the drs, nurses and others, to look after us.

But what do you do if the system fails you!? What if someone’s bad day becomes your problem because they couldn’t handle it quietly to themselves.

What if the man inserting the cannula into your veins doesn’t back off when you ask him to because on the 9th attempt he still hadn’t done it.

What if you can’t cope with all of this because of things that have happened in your past.

What if all of this exasperates your MS.
What do you do then?

Liberated

So unbelievably proud of myself even though my daddy will tell me off, my error forgetting my prescription for my fatigue meds on Monday, therefore I have to fix it, right!?
Drove myself to the hospital to cash in my prescription for some drugs!
Oh yeah and I’m makeup-less as I’m  having an MRI later (different hospital) and I just couldn’t be bothered!

Denervation day!

Myles came to support me yesterday for my ‘Denervation & sacroiliac joint facet steroid injections’ at University hospital Coventry but was feeling a little nervous about going into day surgery & wouldn’t get out of my bag!…

Whilst I was getting settled in my hospital bed for the day Myles was checking out his surroundings…

It can get very boring waiting for your turn in theatre so we had a look at what we could do to pass the time…

After having a little read of the book Myles then decided to have a go at a sudoku puzzle!…

Myles wasn’t very happy because he wasn’t allowed in theatre with me but was over the moon when I came out and took the opportunity for some selfies!…

I always try and stay positive & with as ManySmiles as I can! How could I not smile with a cup of tea in my hand and a bear on my arm!…

I had a few things done yesterday, one procidure called denervation (pronounced De-Nerve-Ation) the consultant puts needles deep into my lower spine and attatches a machine that litterally burns the nerves at 80°c! This procedure stops the pain messages travelling from the nerve to the brain!

During the other procedure the consultant injects steroids into both of my sacroiliac joints (where the hips join the spine)

This time he did denervation higher up my spine as well because the pain was stopping me from being backwards!
Phew!
The procedures took just over an hour & I was awake for all of it!

Last 2 times I had it done, I could only stand him doing one side so had to go back another day for the other side to be done!
This time i managed to bare the painful procedures and the consultant did it all in one go!

I don’t want Alarms to wake me!

Nooooooo! Back to Alarms waking us up tomorrow then! 😠
It’s been a lovely 10 days of DebbieRahRah at home! We both wish it could last longer but keeping Fugly (our bungalow) isn’t free & due to me being unable to work…

She’s such a good un!

Me however, what little sleep I get & how much I kick and punch her in the night I don’t know how she wakes me! Unless it’s for the gym of course!
I just want to remind people that I don’t punch and kick my wife for fun! In fact I have no control and no memory of it! It doesn’t wake me, I only know when I wake in the morning and she’s slept on the sofa!

No gym for me in the morning, I think in fact my appointment tomorrow is much better! I know, I know, is that possible I hear you cry!?
Yes it is… because I’m off to see a man about some pain relief! Yep, that day is finally here! Time to find out what Mr Pain clinic man can do for my back this time!…
